The National Arts Club was founded in 1898 to “stimulate, foster, and promote public interest in the arts and to educate the American people in the fine arts”. Numerous esteemed literary figures including W.H. Auden, Mark Twain, and Frank McCourt have been members. Previous recipients of the Medal of Honor for Achievement in Literature include Salman Rushdie, Joyce Carol Oates, Chinua Achebe, Alice Munro, Toni Morrison, and Margaret Atwood.  We are so proud of Paul Auster for his well-deserved inclusion in the ranks of such esteemed authors.
