The Yiddish Book Center named a recipient of this year’s National Medal for Museum and Library Service
Aaron Lansky, author of Outwitting History, founded the Yiddish Book Center in 1980 in an attempt to save irreplaceable Yiddish books being discarded by those who couldn’t decipher the language. The Center has now collected over one million volumes, preserving decades of Jewish history and making Yiddish literature internationally accessible. The National Medal will be presented by First Lady Michelle Obama at a White House ceremony in Washington, DC on May 8th.
